+ Shala Kundalini + Sound Healing

Experience kundalini yoga and learn about using kriya to change your life.

This class is a unique and transformative experience that blends the energetic power of Kundalini yoga with the fluidity of Vinyasa warm-ups and the healing vibrations of sound therapy. This class promises a journey of self-discovery, balance, and profound relaxation.

We begin with a series of Vinyasa warm-ups, gently awakening the body and synchronizing breath with movement. This prepares you for the dynamic Kundalini portion of the class, where you'll explore Kundalini kriyas (specific sequences of postures and breathwork) designed to awaken your inner energy centers and elevate your consciousness. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or new to Kundalini, modifications will be offered to accommodate all levels.

As you progress through the Kundalini kriya, you'll tap into your inner power and vitality. Kundalini is known for its ability to unlock the dormant energy at the base of the spine, leading to a heightened state of awareness and transformation. Essentially, Kundalini Yoga moves and transforms your energy.

The crowning jewel of this class is the savasana (final relaxation) experience. Here, we incorporate the soothing sounds of gongs and crystal singing bowls, creating a sound healing journey that promotes deep relaxation, stress relief, and inner harmony. The vibrations from these instruments resonate with your body and mind, enhancing your meditative state and leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Our experienced teacher will guide you through this dynamic fusion of yoga and sound therapy, providing a safe and supportive space for your practice. This class offers not only physical and mental benefits but also a profound sense of inner peace and balance. Join us on this extraordinary path of self-discovery and healing. Sat Nam.

+ Shala Kundalini FREE

This class is free! These classes can be challenging mentally and physically, yet they are suitable for all levels.

Kundalini kriya is a set of actions for a specific purpose. These purposes could focus on an energetic element, chakras, organs, glands or goals such as overcoming anger and fear. Kriyas can include traditional hatha yoga, calisthenics, rapid and slow movement, breath work, meditation and mantra. There are thousands of kriyas and each class tends to be unique and suited to the time and class intention. Gong and singing bowl sound baths are given in savasana.

Kundalini yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of exercise and meditation that boosts our energy, synchronizes the impulses of our nervous system, releases energetic blockages, balances our hormones, and uplifts our attitude to allow the pure radiance of our authentic self to shine. While other branches of yoga focus primarily on physical postures, kundalini yoga focuses on how the postures alter our energy and mind-set. Postures, movement, breathing, meditation, mantras, and lifestyle come together to bring about remarkable transformations of personal energy.

The term kundalini refers to the concentrated living energy that opens up our potential. It is an energy that is dormant yet calls us to be awakened within. Once activated, it permeates us, energizes our cells to bring health and vitality, and connects our consciousness with the infinite.

Meditation Classes

+ Shala Sadhana Meditation

Join Ara and Jon -Yoga Shala owners, in Morning Sadhana. A dedicated Kundalini yoga practice that involves a short yoga warm up and a 31 minute mantra and breath work meditation. Jon and Ara commit to this practice for a specific number of days. Come as much or as you like, you do not have to commit every day unless you feel inspired to do so. We will practice one meditation between 40-90 days and then we will change to a new one.

All levels are welcome, if you are tired, rest, and lie down if needed. This way, participants regardless of ability can absorb the group energy and healing vibrations. It takes time to build into a practice like this.

Why do we do this for 31 minutes and why do we do it for so many days?

31 minutes: Affects your whole mind and your aura. Full endocrinological balance is achieved. As is the balance of the chakras of the energy body. This balance persists throughout the day, and is reflected by changes in moods and behavior.

40 days: Helps to break negative habits that can block you from the expansion that is possible from these meditations. 40 days straight in a row creates the beginning of a new habit that disempowers old negative habits. 90 days: When you practice the meditation for 90 days straight, it will firmly establish a new habit in your conscious and subconscious mind. It will change you in a very deep way by further disempowering old habits that prevent you from progressing.

This is a tried and tested, ancient technology for creating greater awareness and Self mastery over one's life. It’s very simple, and the only requirement for it to be effective is regular practice.

Sometimes it takes a while to create a regular practice. It may take many stops and starts but if you just keep at it, you will succeed. We are here to help you on this path.

Bring a water bottle, a mat and something to sit up higher on such as a blanket or two, a meditation cushion, bolster or blocks. If you do not have these props, you can borrow ours. We also have some for sale as well.

+ Shala Meditate

Welcome to our Shala Kundalini Meditation class, a unique transformative experience that taps into powerful energy within you. Do this class after your 7:30am or before your 9:30am asana classes to create a well rounded yoga practice.

This meditation class offers several types of Kundalini meditation and is designed for all levels of practitioners. Show up as you are and do your best.

We use many elements to help train the mind to enter a more calm and peaceful state. Breath, movement, and mantra are often a part of Kundalini meditations, breaking the notion that meditation is always done in a still and silent manner.

Kundalini meditations work on multiple layers, they can work on the physical body for healing, the mind for calming, and the pituitary gland to stimulate the intuition. No matter where we live in the world or what our background, most of the challenges we face have some common ground. We are all looking for belonging, love, acceptance and trust to move through this wonderful and sometimes complicated human experience.

Everyone in this day and age needs tools, and these classes have been created to give you the tools to meet life’s challenges and rise above them to enhance your human experience.

Expect a kundalini meditation first, then a sound healing meditation afterwards to incorporate the effects.

Please bring a blanket and meditation cushion -if you have one, if you do not, we have some.

+ Shala Meditate Power Hour (currently not offered)

Every Sunday we offer the Jupiter Kriya.

This is a special meditation/kriya recommended to be done once a week. It is a powerful practice that clears blocks, brings abundance and prosperity -great for business owners!! and in general helps you to be YOU!

31 minute meditation is followed by a blissful gong sound healing. This is an all levels practice -there are no levels in kundalini yoga. Just come and do your best!

Please bring a mat and meditation cushion or blankets to sit on for comfort. An eye pillow would be nice for resting.

"This kriya, called Jupiter Kriya, brings prosperity home. It is powerful enough to clear out the garbage in your subconscious mind. Your own electromagnetic psyche shall be tuned in with the Universal electromagnetic field." -KRI teachings

"This is the perfect example of a meditation from Kundalini Yoga Therapy that allows the individual to cross their own blood brain barrier and stimulate positive and beneficial psychological changes. The pressure on specific acupressure points creates a calming effect that allows for the release of past trauma. Originally offered as a "children's meditation" and from this we conclude it has an impact on adolescents and adults as well, reaching deep into the brain to allow for actual transformation and release of prior trauma." -Dr. Japa Khalsa

+ Prenatal Yoga (currently not Offered)

This class takes elements from traditional yoga with the intention to support the transformative experience of pregnancy. We will explore poses to alleviate aches and pains, cultivate strength and alignment for your shifting body, and make space for your baby (or babies!) to lay comfortably & optimally in your womb.

We will also weave in meditation, breath work and visualization that prepare your mind and body for pregnancy and birth. These additional techniques will help to reduce stress, cope with common pregnancy symptoms, and build confidence and trust in your body. This is a wonderful space to mindfully connect with your body, your baby and other expectant mothers.

These classes are designed so that you can recreate some of what you learn at home in between our weekly meetings to feel vibrant and healthy throughout your pregnancy. No experience with yoga necessary!

+ Shala Restore (Currently not Offered)

Deeply relax with as your body is completely supported in longer held yoga poses Restorative yoga enables deep relaxation as you holding poses for longer periods of time with the help of props to completely support you.

The main focus of Restorative Yoga is that by relaxing in poses, with the aid of props, without strain or pain, we can achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation. Restorative yoga classes are very relaxing and slow paced. Props, like blocks, bolsters, blankets and straps are used so that you are supported in your pose comfortably. You will then hold the pose for an extended period of time. This practice is great to balance an active yoga schedule or to give yourself a break when you feel under the weather.

Our parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated when we relax into poses, which promotes a relaxation response and reduces stress in our bodies. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for slowing your heart rate and breath and increasing blood flow to your vital organs, among other things.

When you are practicing restorative yoga, you will feel a sense of motionlessness and shapelessness, and this can lead you to feel some emotional discomfort and vulnerability. If this happens, stay with the breath and allow it to pass.

The crowning jewel of this class is the Alchemy Crystal Bowl Sound Healing session during the practice and final relaxation. + Shala Yin/Yang Yoga

Yin Yang Yoga blends two styles of yoga into one practice – bringing together the benefits of passively holding yoga poses with more dynamic sequences and standing postures.

Expect to simultaneously relax and work your body in a gently warm room. Enjoy a lovely sound bath at the end of class.

Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts which describe the two relative qualities present in everything. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward.

When these terms are applied in yoga, Yin Yoga is a slower practice where poses are passively held for longer. It works on the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. Yang Yoga, in contrast, refers to a more active practice. This works on the (Yang) muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility. Yang styles of yoga are those with rhythm and repetition like Vinyasa Flow.

Katie has spent the last year refocusing on balance; finding space to pursue fulfilling work while ensuring time and energy for self, family and friends. Outside of the studio Katie enjoys time with her husband Steve, dogs Rocky and Adrian. They enjoy the outdoors, backpacking, sitting on the back deck, tinkering in the garden or meeting friends for patio dining; and in the spirit of balance, she can also be found watching rerun after rerun of her favorite comfort shows, snuggled up on the couch with her family.

  • Melissa is a Kundalini yoga instructor who completed her 200hr teacher training at Shala Living Yoga. She has been practicing yoga on and off since she was 15 years old. She started practicing mostly as cross-training in her rock climbing days but it grew to be a much bigger part of her life. She was attracted to how healing the movement felt for her body but also had a growing interest/appreciation for the philosophical side of yoga. She read books to learn more about the philosophy but was really able to expand and deepen her knowledge by completing the Kundalini yoga training.

She enjoys all types of asana but Kundalini holds a special place in her heart. She loves to share her practice with others so that they too can continue to deepen and expand their practices. She is excited to teach, learn from, and learn with you in class!

  • Katrina has been a dancer since childhood, and came to yoga looking to cross-train for ballet and modern dance. She began teaching yoga in 2012 at EWU, and completed her 200hr YTT at Harmony Yoga in 2015.

While working on PhD research in sacred sensuality, she rediscovered tantra yoga, a fully-embodied path to union with the divine. After a lot of research and jñāna study, she completed a 300hr YTT in shakta tantra yoga in 2022 (in Bali!) She has also trained in barre, Pilates, dance and HAES (health at every size) movement.

For her 'day job,’ Katrina has worked as a mental health counselor specializing in LGBTQIA+ issues, sexual health and healthy body image since 2019. She continues to study trauma-informed yoga, deep core and pelvic floor anatomy, sound healing, bhakti, ecstatic movement and somatic healing. Her life's work has emerged through yoga: "My job here on earth is to hold space and advocate for every being to connect with the divine truth in these bodies we've got—to feel it all!"

When she's not leading asana classes or embodiment workshops, Katrina loves to cuddle with her dog Owen and enjoy all the gritty magick Spokane has to offer.

  • The road to enlightenment is one with many twist and turns, such was the journey for Richelle. Being introduced to yoga at twelve she was intrigued but also confused by this unique and foreign concept of moving her body this way for exercise. She grew up doing gymnastics, dancing and other team sports. She can still remember practicing to a cassette tape in the mornings with her older cousin, Willard, in the hallway between their rooms the summer she stayed with her family. She was Richelle’s first glimpse into this parallel world of the souls journey. Thank you Willard.

In the spring of 2015 Richelle took her first 200 hr training in Auburn, CA. Studying a form of Yoga heavily influenced with Bhakti and Vinyasa. Swooning in all the devotional mantra and kirtan, her spiritual and mindfulness  practice began. In the fall of 2015 Richelle moved to Alaska and while there had the opportunity to continue to study Thai massage, kids yoga, aerial arts and acro yoga.

2018 is when Richelle moved to the magical area of Spokane, WA. Submersing herself deep in the healing journey of self love, mindfulness and wholehearted wellness. In the time that she’s been back in the lower 48 Richelle has  been blessed to study Reiki energy healing, study / teach Acro Yoga with her partner Mosha, continue to practice, teach and even perform her love for the aerial arts, and dive deeper into Yin and Power Yoga completing her most recent 200hr with the Spokane Yoga Shala with Ara Lyman and Rhea Slichter in June 2020.

Richelle is an intentional body mover, her friends and practitioners often call her a ‘good stretcher person’  and her offerings are intuitive and heart centered, often bringing the intention of presence and stillness. Richelle looks forward to seeing you and celebrating your uniqueness as we learn to walk this path together.

  • Rose began her journey with yoga 7 years ago, seeking a way to strengthen her body and create new flexibility and health within. She quickly fell in love with the sacredness she discovered on the mat, as well as the peace she was able to carry and apply throughout the rest of her life. Along with yoga, Rose is passionate about rock climbing, hiking, and spending time outside. She loves the connection she is able to find between yoga and nature, the ability to live in a more organic and healthful way. "Yoga changed my life from the very first practice. It taught me to love myself more fully, to recognize my inner strength, to overcome my doubts, and to learn patience through the process. When I began to study yoga, one of the things I found to be the most beautiful are the ethics and principles that yoga teaches. The Yamas and Niyamas, how we are taught to treat ourselves and others, are guidelines that I have always inherently believed, and wished to develop further. Kindness and love is the essence of life, and I truly hope to share and receive this light through my yoga journey. If there is one thing I wish to share with others, it is the joy that yoga has brought to me!"Rose completed her 200 hr RYT focused on vinyasa Flow in June of 2016, and she has been sharing this love for yoga, health, and happiness since then.

  • Jacque has an extensive background in leading group classes in our community. Her certifications include ACE, NASM, and 200hr YTT.  Jacque was first introduced to Ashtanga Yoga in 2007 and was hooked on the powerful connection of breath and spirit. After experimenting with many different forms of yoga, she found her home with Anusara vinyasa flow.  Jacque experienced an internal grace that manifested into beautiful source of pure joy. She discovered that flowing through asanas builds strength and power, encourages energetic lengthening and alignment, and develops intentional presence in the moment.  Yoga is an integration of the celebration of the heart and balanced energetic action within the poses. The rhythm of movement and vibration of breath creates a harmony of the most beautiful music that feeds the soul and brightens the internal glow.

Jacque believes that the best gift you give yourself is stepping on your mat and taking time to be intentional with your heart; honoring your practice by meeting yourself exactly where you are at; and with  gratitude and grace letting whatever needs to unfold, reveal and soften.  Yoga is an opportunity to be kind to yourself, which in turn radiates outward to others.  It is a celebration of the beautiful person you are and the inner goodness of your heart and soul.

Jacque and her husband, Mike (married for 25 years) have 2 amazing sons.  Passionate about teaching and learning, Jacque is also mathematics professor at Spokane Community College.

  • Angeleah was first introduced to yoga in 2012 and instantly fell in love with the practice the first time she stepped onto the mat. She found the practice not only as an amazing workout, but yoga also had a way of allowing her to be her true authentic self on and off the mat. She grew her practice steadily and found that her life was improving immensely, body, mind and soul. This is the reason why she teaches yoga. In hopes that sharing her practice with others will also help them on their journey, whether that is to expand your body and mind or to heal your heart and soul.

She completed her 200 RYT in 2014 with Alison Rubin at Harmony Yoga right here in beautiful Spokane, WA. She has continued her education with multiple workshops and Yoga Alliance backed certifications that include Creating Sacred Spaces. Her love for yoga continues to grow and is eager for more knowledge in this ancient practice.

Angeleah’s classes are a beautiful blend of sweatiness and softness. Her vinyasa classes embody the meaning of flow with creative sequences that will keep you on your toes. Every class is designed to take you deeper into your body, moving you into the present moment with self love and care with every breath. Classes will also include deep hip openers, gentle adjustments and the use of essential oils to drop you in even further into this moment. All levels are more then welcome.

  • Jill discovered yoga in her teens in the late 90’s and it was love at first asana. Her first experience with kundalini energy was during meditation in 1999. She practiced at several studios in Skagit Valley, Bellingham, and Spokane before she found the Shala in 2017. She received her 200 hour Yoga Alliance Tantra Kundalini Flow certification from Shala Living Yoga.

Jill’s practice is rooted in sadahna—daily practice—kriya, mantra, and meditation. She especially loves guiding students through an energetic practice before dropping into powerful meditation and healing sound. She offers classes that align with nature and the changing of the seasons, incorporate yoga sutra and philosophy, and encourage deep connection with self, all ten bodies! She is deeply grateful and honors the wisdom and traditions passed to her by her teachers, and she is open to new pathways and the evolution of kundalini yoga.

“Yoga makes me better. It makes life more fun, more connected, and easier. My goal as a teacher is to share this technology in an inclusive, supportive community, to practice together, and to transform together.”

Jill is a writer, mushroom hunter, ex-farmer, and mom to two radical beings.

  • Kolbie Fletcher is has completed many certifications including: CYT 200 hatha, CYT 200 Vinyasa/Power, 150 Traditional Tantra Hatha and she is currently studying Ayurveda Health Counseling

Kolbie Fletcher is a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher with extensive training across various yoga disciplines. Her journey began in 2012 with hot yoga, which quickly evolved into a passion for understanding the deeper aspects of yoga and life itself. After completing her initial 200-hour teacher training with her husband Travis in 2016, Kolbie realized there was more to yoga than just the physical practice.

Driven by a desire to understand herself and those around her, she continued studying. She dove deeper into the spiritual and philosophical aspects of yoga and sought additional trainings. This led her to complete a second 200-hour training in 2017, which included a comprehensive curriculum covering power, vinyasa, restorative, yin, hands-on adjustments, advanced anatomy and self-study. Despite this, she still felt something was missing—the spiritual dimension of yoga, the connection to one’s Soul.

Continuing her quest for knowledge and understanding, Kolbie traveled to Bali where she found the missing link she had been seeking. There, she immersed herself in the practices of meditation, pranayama, integrity and discipline, gaining a deeper understanding of the spiritual essence of yoga, the yoking, union of mind, body and soul.

Throughout her journey, Kolbie has pursued further education in various disciplines related to yoga, including Positive Psychology, Tantra/Ashtanga, Reiki, Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutras and more. In 2019, she and her husband opened Rooted Yoga with the intention of sharing the diverse teachings of yoga with their community.

For Kolbie, yoga is not just a physical practice but a way of life that brings purpose, stillness and a sense of groundedness. She remains a lifelong student, continuously seeking to deepen her understanding and share the wisdom of yoga with others, so that they too can find union within themselves and the universe.
